The new world of economics : explorations into the human experience
Published in Unknown Binding by R. D. Irwin ()
Author: Richard B. McKenzie
Average review score:

A great application of economic theories.
Richard McKenzie does an excellent job of taking all of the dry economic theories that college professors "think" they understand and applies them to real world examples.

Economics is never more "Alive" than it is in this book. This is one of those rare books that brings a lot of loose ends of economic theories together, in easily understandable language. It puts them in real life situations where they make sense.

You don't know as much about Economics as the readers of this book do. Jeff B.

A Master of Photography
Joseph McKenzie has been called the Father of Scottish Photography and he's all of that - a living legend!
This book came to my notice by chance and is now one of my treasured texts. There are other brilliant books by Mr. McKenzie that are not listed here, but can be obtained from the author. Gorbals Children a study in Photographs (ISBN0-86267-269-4 Richard Drew Publishing Ltd) is such another.
For anyone interested in photography, and especially Black and White Photography, these are inspirational works of art. Joseph McKenzie is a master behind the lens and an alchemist in the darkroom. His subject matter is a record of the 20th Century.
With photographs in the Victoria & Albert Museum, in the National Portrait Gallery of Scotland, In Dundee City archives and with the Carnegie Trust, why is it we fail to recognise genius in the flesh, and recognise it only when they have passed to dust? Anyone, who considers himself or herself a photographer without these classics - just isn't.

Paul Ramsey's Ethics: The Power of 'Agape' in a Postmodern World
Published in Hardcover by Praeger Publishers (30 November, 2000)
Author: Michael C. McKenzie
Average review score:

Good news for religion in the public square
The books says that the author is a professor of ethics in upstate New York. The good news is that he doesn't write like a professor! At least most of the professors I know. I was able not only to understand what he was saying, but to mentally dialogue with the work as I went along. The book is about Paul Ramsey, the late ethicist from Princeton who was a prolific writer who also believed that one's religion could be a positive force when thinking about moral issues. I read a good deal of books on ethics and postmodernism, and I found the author's presentation of Ramsey a refreshing change from some of the densely-packed (and nearly impossible to understand) volumes I've recently plowed through.

McKenzie covers Ramsey's views on medical and political ethics, and traces his thought back to his Protestant roots. Besides the references to relevant issues like cloning, I guess what I liked the most was the author's final chapter where he made the case that Ramsey's way of doing ethics is a good fit for religious or spiritual people talking about morality today. You don't have to check either your brains or your religious tradition at the door. This is a good read. I do recommend it.

Great book, especially for Kindergartners and First Graders
I am a Kindergarten teacher and would love to have a copy of this book. I would use it as an example for a class big book. The students could use the book's predictable text to make their own class book. Please help if you can.

A must-read for the rare few
Not many people live together as part of a long-term lifestyle. If you do, this little book might make your life much, much easier.

Though rather specific to Australia, the remaining 95% of the book is hilarious & deeply insightful -- usually with the very same comment.

If you will EVER find yourself in a "roommate situation," you need to have this book. Said roomies oughta read it too.
